This is a hard question! My daughter is in Tokyo right now for six days before heading to Gifu to do research, and then ending her trip in Kyoto. Her problem was she wanted the flexibility to take non-JR trains, especially in Gifu. So she ended up not buying the JR pass. My favorite city is Kamakura, so when I finally take my trip to Japan, I will start in Tokyo and go to Kamakura next, and then probably to Shizuoka to visit my close friend. And I would also love to go to Kyoto and maybe other cities in Kansai. The main problem would be to fit these stops into seven days!

please don't worry! I took a mini vacation from Substack in May because I got too busy. my daughter is in Tokyo right now and enjoys having no plans. and I don't think I can get to Japan until maybe fall 2024. There is a lot of time! Please enjoy Pakistan, my husband was there some years ago!
I agree with you. A huge increase will do more harm in the inbound market. This increase will bring lots of oversea travelers into the confusion of buying tickets every time they travel.
