This place is especially good for foreigners with nice tastes and money to burn who can take advantage of the low yen.

I used to live in Seijo! Natsukashii! Loved the wine selection among other things. Felt like a bit of Europe.

Thanks for your comment, Patrick. Seijo-Ishii has one of the best selections of wines. Although the price is relatively higher, the quality is reliable. I wish there were one in my locality, but I will go there frequently if there is one. How long has it been since you left?

Hello Tanikawa San. If I’m not mistaken I recall you being on TV when I was there. Some of my favourite reporting/programming. I’m was in and out of Tokyo for 20 years and it’s now been 10. Though I have a son who just graduated Geidai so am overdue for a visit !

I'm happy to hear that you remembered me. I was in London from 2005 until 2010, so you had a good chance of seeing me if you were in Tokyo in that period. You miss Japan, don't you?

Yes ! I was there during that period in fact. Had just returned from London myself in 2002 and was there off and on beforehand. Japan holds a very special place in my heart. Very fond memories and friends. Am currently in Vancouver. Pleased to meet you !

this is so helpful! I think I worry more about being hungry in a strange city than anything else, so thank you for this tip!

Thanks for your comment, Maya. Convenience stores such as Seven-Eleven are not enough for some travelers. Seijo Ishii is a bit more expensive but provides you with more value. Are you planning to visit Japan in the near future?

Yes! We are hoping to go in the fall sometime, but we’re not sure exactly when. My daughter is going to be in Kyoto for a year so I will visit her at least a couple of times, very excited!

Your visit to Kyoto in autumn sounds exciting! But please be prepared for the congestion. It would be advisable to book hotels now.

I have heard so much about the crowding! So unfortunate. I will start looking around for hotels but I don't know our travel dates yet, so it's complicated. But thank you for the reminder, I really need to start checking....

Oooo, lots of history here that I did not know. Thanks! Also I’d add that Seijo has decent sake selections—I will always buy from independent owned sake shops but in a pinch I can find quite decent selections in Seijo.

You are right, Jack. They have variety of range of affordable good sake and wine. Seijo Ishii is always the first choice when I need a good sake or wine urgently.

Good chain. I sometimes go when I crave for laksa or Vietnamese pho or when no time to cook.

Thanks for your comment. I can’t go everyday, but use it occasionally when I want something different.
