I'm really looking forward to going to Hakone next November and it's great that you have given me all this information. The thing is that for you, who travels around Japan all the time, this looks simple, but for me, probably travelling on my own for just 3 weeks, I might as well be on Mars...it looks impossible to navigate, for a visitor...so I think I will book a tour! Thanks for all the lovely photos.

Thanks for your comment, Diane. As you say, it is a challenge to research and assemble an itinerary for 3 weeks. The same is true for my 3-week trip to Australia, which requires much preliminary research.

If you opt for an all-out tour, you still have a year to go, and you may be able to consult with someone else to make part of the three weeks your own.

If you don't mind, I can definitely help you construct your itinerary. If you are unsure, you can always hire a guide on the spot.

Thanks Hideo, that is what I plan to do. A few day tours and some time to myself to just wander about because to us who don't live in Japan, absolutely everything there in any direction is absolutely beautiful, interesting, fascinating and so different! About 5 years ago I did a day tour to Harie with "YUTour" and it was one of the high points of the 3 weeks. I highly recommend a tour with that young man (well- to ME he was young! ) A very comprehensive day with not too much walking as I'm not great with walking distances and he also gave us so much information, was very pleasant and friendly too.

Thanks for your comment, Diane. There have been dramatic changes in tourism in Japan. Now you have more choices, and I am sure you will be able to find a good guide. If you wish to try me, I could be one of the possibilities. Please don't hesitate to contact me if there is anything that I can help.

We had a beautiful stay in Hakone (late September). This guide is excellent if people can’t spend a few days. Though, a few days is really excellent.

Only thing to watch, depending on your location, there are wild boars roaming the hills. Fun to see, not fun when they chased me! 😳🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for your comment. Ideally, you should spend a few days in Hakone, which is why the Hakone Pass is for two or three days. I never realized that wild boars were roaming. I would like to see them. Now, you can see snow-capped Mt. Fuji from Tokyo, and it should be beautiful if you go there on a clear day.
